Trying to quit caffeine? Here are the best ways to have more energy without coffee.
For many of us, coffee is our first drink of the day. It’s the energy buddy we rely on to keep us going, and some may even say life without it would be tragic. The thing is though, if you’re one of those people who feels like their world is collapsing if they don’t have their morning brew, you might be relying on coffee a little too much.
Don’t get us wrong – we love coffee and the variety of health benefits it offers us – but consuming too much caffeine (and worse, relying on it) can lead to feelings of anxiousness, restlessness, and irritability. The good news is, there are plenty of healthy foods, beverages, and simple habits you can implement (sans caffeine) that will give you the motivation and energy boost you need to fuel your day.
By incorporating some simple practices and healthy alternatives into your life, you can officially have more energy without needing coffee. We gathered our favorite ways to help you get your boost without a cup of joe.
1. Start your morning with water and caffeine-free tea
We all know the importance of drinking water. Because we lose fluids while we sleep, we naturally wake up dehydrated which can affect our alertness and concentration. When you drink water or decaffeinated tea first thing in the morning, it re-hydrates your body and gets your insides moving which promotes an energetic feeling. Of course, we also love how drinking water and staying hydrated promotes beautiful and radiant skin along with many other health benefits.
One of the best ways to drink more water is to invest in a reusable water bottle. Not only are they great for the environment, but having one on hand encourages you to make hydrating a habit.
TRADITIONAL MEDICINALS
Organic Green Tea
This is one of the most delicious green tea’s we have ever tried. We love this organic blend made with dandelion (an excellent source of potassium) which supports the body’s natural detoxification process.
2. Eat energy-boosting foods
Eating the right foods play an essential role in helping you feel healthy and energized. For sustained energy throughout your day, reach for foods packed with fiber (apples, avocados, nuts), whole grains (oatmeal, quinoa), and protein (salmon, eggs). Avoid sugary and processed foods or beverages such as sodas, energy drinks, sweets, or overly-salted snacks like potato chips. These unhealthy choices zap your energy levels and offer little to no nutritional value.
3. Get some sun
Not only does spending time in the sun increase happiness and feelings of well-being, but adequate (and safe) exposure will keep you feeling energetic throughout your day. This is due to vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin, and its ability to promote energy and lower your chances of feeling fatigued. Getting sunlight early in the morning will also help you sleep better since sun exposure encourages melatonin production that will have you feeling sleepy just in time for bed.
Just make sure you are wearing sunscreen every day to avoid early signs of aging and skin damage. We love this lightweight, oil-free sunscreen that protects your skin from harmful rays while also clearing pores and reducing shine.
ELTA MD
UV Clear Facial Sunscreen
This zinc oxide facial sunscreen with broad-spectrum coverage provides optimal protection from both UVA and UVB rays. We also love that it is 100% suitable for sensitive or acne-prone skin, oil-free, and will never clog pores.
4. Move a little
Moving around, even a little, will surely increase your energy levels. Essentially, because movement boosts oxygen circulation throughout the body, your system functions better and utilizes energy more efficiently. You will also benefit from an increase in endorphins – the happiness hormones – that comes from exercising.
5. Get enough sleep
If you end up having a poor night’s sleep, chances are you wake up feeling sluggish, fatigued, and cranky throughout our entire day. To guarantee positive energy throughout your day it’s crucial that you are getting a quality night’s sleep. Plus, when you get proper rest you are less likely to feel tempted to grab a coffee or unhealthy snack that your body craves when it’s feeling run down.
